We are proud to share that Inés García Barquero and Juan Manuel Soto, two of our colleagues, completed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) that certifies them as European Patent Attorneys (EPAs). With this competence, they can represent parties in any kind of proceeding before the European Patent Office (EPO), including the filing of patent applications and participation in opposition procedures, among others.
Both colleagues provide services for the protection of inventions in the areas of Engineering & Physics and in Information Technologies and ICT Telecommunications. Specifically, its activity includes patent prosecution and drafting, opinion work and patentability searches, mostly in the areas of computing, telecommunications, physics, fintech and medtech.
With Inés and Juan Manuel, we have up to 21 members of our team from various technical fields who have completed these professional exams, which are regarded quite demanding. This demonstrates that they have a thorough understanding of European Patent Law, the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the Paris Convention, the jurisprudence of the EPO’s Board of Appeal, and other relevant national legislation.
Inés joined ABG in 2018, and she holds a M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering specialising in Bioengineering and a M.Sc. in Telemedicine and Bioengineering. Before joining ABG, Inés worked as a researcher at Medical Image Laboratory in Gregorio Marañón Hospital (2013-2018). She focused on developing medical image processing and reconstruction algorithms, acquiring x-ray images and calibrating x-ray systems.
Juan Manuel joined ABG in 2021 and he holds a Ph.D. in Physics, a M.Sc Data Science & Computer Engineering and a M.Sc in Biomedical Engineering. He is Spanish Patent and Trademark Agent since 2022. Before joining ABG, he worked on several research projects, related to digital signal processing and ultrasonic evaluation for medical applications, for the University of Granada. Later, he developed his doctoral thesis in the Optics Department of the Universidad Complutense de Madridand the Photonics, Numerical and Nanosciences Laboratory of the University of Bordeaux.
