Olaia joined ABG in September 2025 as a Patent Adviser in the Chemistry & Materials department. Her practice is focused on patent drafting, prosecution, opinion work and FTOs in the organic and pharmaceutical chemistry fields.

Before she started at ABG, she worked as a researcher associate at Northeastern University, Boston, USA (2023–2025), where she was involved in projects on kinase inhibitors for the treatment of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

Prior to that, she completed her PhD at the Institute of Medicinal Chemistry (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) in Madrid (2017–2022), focusing on the synthesis, characterization, and biological activity of antivirals for the treatment of HIV and EVA71. During her doctoral thesis, she completed a predoctoral stay at the Center for Biopharmaceuticals at Copenhagen University, Denmark. Her PhD research was recognized with two awards for outstanding early-career researchers from the Spanish Society of Therapeutic Chemistry.

The results of her research were published in several prestigious journals, including the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Chemistry – A European Journal, and the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.

Olaia is a Spanish and Valencian native speaker and is fluent in English.
