We are delighted to announce that three members of the ABG Intellectual Property team have passed the exams required to practice as Patent and Trademark Agent before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO). The new agents are Rodrigo Manzanares, Blanca Palacín, and Juan Manuel Soto. First and foremost, we wish to congratulate our three colleagues on their outstanding achievement, which is unquestionably a watershed moment in their professional careers.

According to the Rules for the Execution of Law 24/2015, of July 24, on Patents, in the tests that they have just passed, it is evaluated “whether the candidate has a sufficiently broad knowledge of the national and international rules that regulate and affect industrial property and whether he or she is familiar with the management of such knowledge, such that he or she can apply it under the conditions that are usually encountered by a Patent and Trademark Agent during the exercise of his profession, including knowledge of foreign languages“.

Our colleagues Rodrigo, Blanca, and Juan Manuel will be able to register in the SPTO Special Registry of Patent and Trademark Agents, enabling them to “advise, assist, and represent third parties in obtaining the various modalities of Industrial Property and in the defense before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office of the rights derived from them” (Art.176.1 of Law 24/2015, July 24, on Patents).

Rodrigo Manzanares is a lawyer who specializes in intellectual property law. In 2017, he began his professional IP career, and in 2019, he joined our Legal & Litigation Department.

Blanca Palacín holds a law degree and started specializing in intellectual property in 2018. She joined ABG’s Trademarks Department two years later, in 2020.

Juan Manuel Soto, on the other hand, holds a PhD in Physics and a Master in Data Science and Computer Engineering, and another Master in Biomedical Engineering. In 2021, he joined ABG as a patent adviser in the departments of Engineering and Physics and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

With this certification, Rodrigo, Blanca and Juan Manuel join Juan Arias, Christine Weinmann, Cecilia Ranilla, Marta Rodríguez, Virginia Gómez and Ana Herreros to increase the number of Spanish Patent and Trademark Agents in ABG IP from six to nine and to complement our 15 European patent attorneys. Undoubtedly, this is a team to be proud of and distinguishes us as a strong national and international player in the field of IP.
