Rising Stars

Marta Rodríguez, Sofia Petterson and Iain McGeoch have been chosen by the prestigious publication Managing IP among their Rising Stars 21. This selection that has just been unveiled recognizes “the best up-and-coming intellectual property practitioners in private practice who contributed to the success of their firms and clients“. In Spain, only 34 specialists have been selected, so it is an immense pride that three of them are part of our team.

It is the fourth time that Marta Rodríguez is ranked, while Sofia Petterson and Iain McGeoch have been selected for the third consecutive year. All three are European Patent Attorneys, although Marta is also a Spanish Industrial Property Agent, and are part of our Chemistry and Materials Department.

Patent Stars

As reported by Managing IP, to choose IP practicioners, the publication is based on information obtained “from thousands of practitioners/firms and their clients through interviews, emails and online surveys“. As a result of this study, they also make a selection of senior professionals whom they distinguish as “Patent Star“. In Spain, only 32 professionals can boast of being part of that select list and three of them are key pieces of the ABG team: Juan Arias, Francisco Bernardo and Fernando Prieto.

Juan Arias and Francisco Bernardo (together with the late Vicente González) co-founded the firm in 2003, when they already had extensive experience in Intellectual Property and international careers that had led them to be examiners at the European Patent Office. Fernando Prieto, on the other hand, was in charge of creating and promoting the Department of Electromechanics in 2004, today divided into Engineering & Physics and Information Technology & Communications.

As “Notable Practioners”, Managing IP includes Irene Vázquez, Associate and European Patent Attorney in our Biotechnology Department, and attorney-at-law Laura Montoya, Head of Legal & Litigation at ABG.

A safe bet

Although there are numerous specialized awards and rankings, the rigourisity of this report carried out by the Managing IP team si broadly known by the Intellectual Property sector. “No firm or individual can pay to be ranked, and there is no fee to participate in our research“, they clarify.

Therefore, it is a great satisfaction for us that our professionals are selected year after year in both categories: Patent and Rising Stars. We believe that this distinction conveys not only our consolidated reputation, but our firm commitment to the promotion of individual talent within our ranks. We are convinced that both ingredients are key to our success and a guarantee for our clients.
