We are pleased to announce the appointment of María Corral as an associate at ABG Intellectual Property.

María joined the ABG team in 2012 and since the very beginning she has demonstrated an excellent ability for work. Over the past 9 years, we have witnessed her tremendous professional growth, which includes her certification as a European Patent Attorney in 2017. Moreover, she has established very successful relationships with clients in the Biotechnology and Life Sciences sector, where her involvement and diligence are especially noteworthy.

María received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her thesis work focused on protein acylation and identification and characterisation of a novel palmitoyl transferase and its substrates. She later joined Hospital Universitario La Princesa (2009-2012) as a post-doctoral researcher where she studied the role of hypoxia in extracellular matrix remodelling in renal cell carcinoma.

This appointment comes at a time when, according to a recent report by the Spanish Association of Biocompanies (AseBio), private investments in the biotechnology sector, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, have increased by nearly 50% and companies that make up this sector are striving to find solutions that create value and become important industrial property assets.

All of this is supported by ABG and its senior-level team of six Ph.D. researchers, four of whom are also European Patent Attorneys, and which is led by former EPO examiner, Agustín Alconada.

María, we hope that this new role as an associate is rewarding and that you continue to progress and develop your career with ABG.
